First Word?!

We think that Samantha may have said her first word last night!! We have Matt and Mari Bell to thank for this, haha! Last night we went in to check on Samantha a little before midnight and accidentally woke her up and she sounded scared (she is still adjusting to living in a new place) so we decided to get her up for a few minutes. After she had calmed down she kept lunging for something on the other side of the bed saying 'pe! pe!' We figured out she was after a scultpure of an eagle that Jacob got when he received his eagle. We got it up for her and she kept saying "pe!" so we were kind of like is that her first word??? Because a baby's first word sometimes doesn't have anything to do with the actual word. It is correctly defined as any word they consistently use to call an object-- they have to KNOW what they are talking about. Some incorrectly call the babblings of 'mamma and dadda' as their first word, but often the first time babies say those, they are simply babbling and not referring to their parents. Anyway so we were marveling over the fact that she could be saying her first word and I suggested that maybe it's because she looooves Gus Gus (the Marquez's bird) and Petey (the Bell's bird) and the eagle was about the same size as the birds. Then Jacob was like "Petey! Maybe she's trying to say Petey!" so we say "petey? are you trying to say petey?" and since then she points at it or pats it and says "pee-ee" it's sooo cute! And we don't have to ask her or anything, she does it by herself! So maybe it is her first word! Petey or 'pee-ee' meaning: Bird. haha
