Books

Hey everyone! I started this page about late May 2010, and most of the books I have read since then are listed!  I may go through someday and add my favorite books, but I think I'll kinda make a section for them at the bottom? We'll see-- that day is not today! :)

More In Depth Reviews:
(K) The Vampire Academy - Richelle Mead    I actually really enjoyed this book, I gave it a 'k' because it is pretty dirty.  The girl in it is lewd and easy, and it was kind of disgusting.  If they had lessened that stuff a lot I definitely would have given it an 'R' and read more of the books  (I think there are 8 or 9 of them?)

(R) Dark Flame- Alyson Noel   This was a good book.  It is book 4 in a series.  The first one is called Evermore.  It's a fun light read with an interesting and unique plot.  They can be a little dark at times, but not in a creepy way.  I really enjoy this series!

(R) The Hourglass Door- Lisa Mangum   This is book 1 in a series, I read book 2 as well, and the second one was pretty disappointing, but not terrible.  It reminds me of twilight, even though it isn't about vampires, it's totally a copycat book.  I still liked it though, and if you're into that type of book, you'll love it.

(K/R) Wings- Aprilynne Pike    I liked this one quite a bit.  It's super cheesy (the second one is WAY better).  It's kind of this unbelievable cheesy story then all of a sudden it gets all thrilling and actually ended up pretty good.  The K is for the first part of the book, and the R is for the second part

(R/HR) A Love Like Lilly- Kay Lynn Mangum  So this isn't a high action book, but I really thought it was good!  It is a well told story, and I absolutely loved reading it.  It flashes back into the 30s (I think?  It's been awhile since I read it) and it tells of a love story and other things.  I really thought it was great. Kay Lynn Mangum is a great author and her books are not over-dramatic and completely unrealistic like so many LDS books.

(HR) The Oracles of Delphi Keep- Victoria Laurie  This is an adventure book and SOOOO good!  I daresay one of the most enjoyable books I've ever read!!   READ it, and read it NOW!

(R) City of Bones and (K) City of Ashes- Cassandra Clare- Good, fascinating books.  Below my standards though.  I really really wanted to read the third (and now there is a fourth!)  But for the sake of my spiritual well being I decided to refrain.  They are a little more sexual than I think is appropriate, and there is a gay couple and they kiss, which is totally disgusting and inappropriate.  (sorry if it offends anyone I feel this way.)

(K/R) Blue Bloods- Melissa De La Cruz This one has a similar review as Vampire Academy.  A little too sexual, and not even as well written. Interesting concept though.

Anna Godberson books-  fun books, she has a way of getting you REALLY attached to the characters.  The stories are about rich kids in New York set waaaay back when.  Think old school Gossip Girl (though I haven't seen Gossip Girl)

Mifnighters series- Scott Westerfeld.   VERY interesting books.  A little dark at first, but once you realize what's going on, you realize it isn't dark.  Anyway they are fascinating and so original, I'd never heard of or imagined or thought of or dreamed of anything like this. ever.  I definitely recommend them!

Sarah Dessen books- she has quickly become one of my favorite authors.  All of her books are about girls going through rough stuff and discovering themselves.  Most have a side love story.  Go read one!!

(HR)Unwind- Neal Shusterman   great book.  Another  dystopian novel, but I thought it was a really good one.  Very gripping and you really love the characters.  Maybe a tad on the gory side (not as bad as Hunger Games)

(R)Matched- Ally Condie good book, but I have no idea what the fuss is about!!  Maybe it's because I had just read Unwind which was AMAZING, but man, I found it to be completely unoriginal,  It seriously reminded me of a mix between Uglies and The Island (yes, the movie- no they aren't clones, but in the book they live how the clones live on the Island.. very regulated.) Also anyone else sick of these stupid books that are Twilight-esque in their love triangles?  Shockingly, there is one in this one too! (gag)

(HR) Delirium- Lauren Oliver  I'm sorry, but Ally Condie who?! (author of Matched)  The fuss should be about THIS book, NOT matched!!!  It was gripping, suspenseful, the love story was much better.  I laughed, I cried (in public..lol)  My pulse raced.  I think my heart stopped.  WOW.  READ this book NOW!!!!  (before there are 10 million holds on it at the library!!)  OH and there is a part where it seems like it might start getting risque, but it doesn't!! So don't worry!

(R) The Summer I turned Pretty- Jenny Han    Fun, light read.  It's totally chick-lit, but that is fun!  I read it in 24 hours, but that was more because my hubby was gone at scout camp so that's what I did while the kids were sleeping :)

(K) It All Started With Autumn Jones- Jack Weyland  I am a Jack Weyland fan, for the most part.  And this book was ok.  It was kinda boring.  As an author, he has a way of getting you really involved in his books, which he does with this one, but the overall plot is still boring- even though you can't seem to put it down.

(HR) Divergent- Veronica Roth  I liked this one as much as I like Delirium!  Great read!  It was action packed, and keeps you going from the very beginning.  I love the romance (yay, no stupid love triangle!).  It wasn't overly gory.  I really really just liked it.
